What inspired me to start my business?

Updated: Jul 23, 2022

This is a question I am frequently asked, and I don't think that I've ever given the same answer twice! But I will try and explain my journey into going self employed.

Growing up my parents both had their own businesses. My dad was a mechanical engineer and my mum was a cake maker.

It is where I get my entrepreneurial ideas from, but growing up I also saw the hardships that came with being self employed, and I vowed I would never be self employed.

Well the universe had other ideas!

When I was working at a large superstore, I sadly got a cold and I never recovered. For months I was bed bound, and eventually I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and ME.

Some medications helped ease the symptoms, but nothing really bought me relief from the pain which was relentless, and the fatigue was horrific. I remember just going shopping would put me in bed for days. The only thing I did everyday was go visit my horse. I honestly dread to think of where I would have been if I hadn't got that horse at that time.

Eventually I gave up with traditional medicine and turned to holistic and alternative approaches. Crystal therapy was one of the things I tried as I have always been rock obsessed! And it helped. It helped me so much that I signed myself up for a two year crystal therapy diploma. I was slowly returning to work and all was well.

As part of the course, I had to complete case studies and this is where I discovered that I just adored helping others! So alongside my 'proper job' I was spending one day a week offering crystal healing sessions.

When I moved careers, I had a devastating blow which was in the form of a horse riding accident but several days later one of my muscles tore and the pain was just out of this world. It resnapped my collar bone which ended up poking out of the top of my shoulder!

Sadly I lost my job and due to my injury I was unemployable, I could barely use my arm for months (I still have issues with it 3 years on!).

So this is where I just thought it is now or never, and I was blessed to be off to The Healing Weekend with my friends and it was here that I had an idea to create a community for those of us who lived a spiritual life.

Two months later and the Magikal Networking Gatherings were born (now the Woo Woo Business Network), and it's been an incredible journey ever since.

I never wanted to be self employed, but I literally wasn't given any other choice. I believe this is where my spirit guides really gave me a kick up the backside!

I can't imagine my life any different now and I still very much adore helping others. It literally gets me out of bed each morning, I mean it is so much more fun working on other peoples business and helping them heal their life than it is working on my own!
